I wish to start off by stating that the contents of this article only my opinion based on information I have read about natural health and from the 10+ years eating and living the way I have daily. Also, with my blood work results every 6 months that reveals no deficiencies, I feel this information is very valuable and of course valid. Maybe it works just for me, my body type and genetics, I can't say for certain. But, just like smoking tobacco will affect each one of us with varying degrees of health negatives, green smoothies, I believe, will probably affect each one of us with various degrees of health positives. Try it for yourself, after talking about it with a naturopath or other doctor initially of course.
The body is supposed to be equipped to heal naturally right? Why are people always sick then? Maybe it's an inaccurate statement, and the body is not equipped to heal itself? No! The predicament is that men and women a) do not supply the body with the right amount of raw materials, by way of diet for the most part, it needs to reset itself and b) we attack it with stuff that hinders the operation of the limited tools that we do provide it.
I'm a huge advocate of the raw food lifestyle. The suggestion that heating foods over a specific temperature destroying much needed enzymes that are important for digestion makes plenty of sense to me. Beyond that, it is suggested that to get the most from our foods we should be chewing it it until it's gone. Our body has troubles digesting big chunks of food. Also, I strongly believe that humans can survive with a a diet of primarily fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, with the occasional healthy fats. For the healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I generally consume.
The main meals I consume every single day are comprised of plenty of raw fruits and greens in the form of green smoothies. Being mostly liquid, my body is able to assimilate the nutrients without a problem.
A huge hurdle for a lot of people when changing the way they eat, and a big one for myself is dealing with unhealthy cravings. Just like someone that is addicted to drugs or alcohol must go through a detox so they can heal, we essentially have to do the same thing. Our cells consist of stuff from foods that we have consumed in the past. The body may crave more of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the makings of each one of the sick cells in our bodies. With a drug detox, often times, dry sauna therapy is used to sweat the drugs out of the system. This usually helps to eliminate the physical cravings which will allow the individual a better chance of staying sober. For us, improving our eating may trigger the elimination of toxic foods as well which can be conveniently removed in stool, sweat and urine. However, we may still having cravings for those foods while some of the toxic elements in our cells are still there.
I have found that instantly after having the first swallow of my green smoothie the cravings for grease, meat, salt, etc began to dwindle. After I was done drinking the smoothie, the cravings were gone completely and I'd be fulfilled. The concern then was that the cravings would come back as I grew hungry. So I started to make sure I was on top of it and would have another smoothie ready before the cravings would come back, or shortly after they reared their ugly heads. The cravings ultimately subsided for good as I became healthier. Suddenly I began to crave greens instead! - 31836
